What is the program about?

This is an exclusive program offering health & dental benefits to member businesses under the BIABC. 

 

Who is eligible?

Any business that is a member under a BIA in British Columbia or Alberta is eligible for the program. 

 

Why should I get a benefits plan for my company?

Offering benefits is a great way to attract and retain quality and loyal employees. It is a 100% tax-deductible expense for your company as well.

 

What benefits are available?

The plans are fully customizable to your needs and budget. They can include elements of life, health (massage, chiro etc.), drugs, dental, vision and travel insurance.  There are also optional benefits available including critical illness, short & long term disability insurance, and employee assistance programs. 

 

Are there health questions required?

With companies of 3+ staff, there are absolutely no health questions required.  Even if there are 2 staff participating and 1 person waiving because they are covered under their spouse, there are still no health questions. Companies with 1 & 2 people require a health questionnaire to qualify.

 

How much does it cost?

Costs can vary depending on the plan design, as well as the number of people requiring single or family coverage.  Because of the magnitude of this program discounted rates have been negotiated for members. How quickly can I get a quote for my business?

Turnaround time will depend on the number of insurance carriers that we approach on your behalf. We usually like to contact multiple so they compete for your business, and can take a couple of weeks to put together a full presentation for you.

How is this program different than others?

This program was designed with small businesses in mind. It was important to offer plans that provided popular designs, affordability and rate stability year over year.

 

Will our rates increase next year if we have high claims?

Traditional benefit plans put heavy weighting on the claims of your company alone so if they are high one year, you will most likely see a large increase in your rates for the following year. With the BIA Benefits Program, you may be in a large pool with thousands of other companies, so your rates are not dependent on your individual claims alone, or semi pooled which will help in keeping your rates very competitive year over year.

 

How does this program compare to other small business benefits programs (ie. Chamber)?

We already have a benefits plan in place for our company. Can we switch?

Absolutely!  There is normally a month’s notice required for your current carrier, and typically no cancellation fees.  Within a month, we can have you up and running on your new BIA Benefit plan!

 

How does this program help fund events and initiatives within our BIA and the BIABC?

BIAs are non-profit organizations who rely on continuous funding to carry out ongoing plans for their communities. For every member that signs up for the program, a marketing fee is paid out by the benefits provider to help support the associated BIA and the BIABC. This is a fantastic way to implement initiatives that benefit all members and their communities.
